Cowes Council funds wasted cleaning up vandalised toilets

Cowes Town Council has expressed its disappointment after being forced to spend valuable resources tackling a spate of vandalism in the town’s public conveniences.

Last week, three toilet blocks in Cowes were targeted. The damage included blocked toilets, emptied sanitary bins, broken toilet roll holders, and extensive spray-painting across walls and windows.

The facilities at Mornington Road and The Parade are owned and managed by Cowes Town Council, while the toilets at Northwood Park are the responsibility of Northwood House Charitable Trust Co. Ltd.

Cowes Mayor, Councillor Stuart Ellis, said the attacks were disheartening and a setback to the Council’s improvement plans.

“It is disappointing that we are having to waste resources on cleaning up mindless vandalism within our town. We would rather be spending resources on bringing forward new projects that bring about improvements to the town”.

“We are working on a project to improve The Cut area with a new Living Wall, new seating and planting, and also on plans to refurbish the toilets at The Parade. That’s where we want to be focusing our resources, not on cleaning up after vandals.”

The town council is urging anyone with information about the incidents to contact the police by calling 101.
