Chunks of palm oil, which is poisonous to dogs, have washed up on West Wight beaches.
The palm oil was spotted on beaches on Sunday at Brook, Fort Victoria and Compton, with some being described as ‘too heavy to move’.
Needles Coastguard rescue team have been on call to remove the substance following calls from the public.
Maritime, environment and animal welfare organisations warn the public to avoid the toxic substance that is hard, white and chalky, and often emits a diesel-like smell.
Palm oil is usually found in food, soaps, shampoos and biofuels, and is harmless to humans.
However, in its solid form it can be fatal to dogs, inducing agonising stomach pains, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Veterinary treatment should be sought immediately if a dog has eaten the waste.
