Cats Protection IW is urging cat owners to make use of a limited supply of subsidised neutering vouchers before the end of the year.
The vouchers offer £50 towards neutering a male cat and £80 towards a female, giving owners a significant saving on the average cost of the procedure. Kittens must be at least four months old to be neutered.
The charity says neutering is important for cat health and welfare. It prevents unplanned pregnancies in females, and can make males less likely to fight and contract diseases. Unneutered cats are also more likely to roam, increasing their risk of road accidents and other dangers.
Jo Morrison, Isle of Wight Cat Centre deputy manager, said neutering is one of the most important things owners can do for their cats. She added that the supply of subsidised vouchers is limited and those eligible should apply before Christmas.
Applicants must live on the Island and either receive a means-tested benefit or have a household working income of less than £25,000. Once eligibility is confirmed, vouchers are valid for three months and can be used at Pet Doctors’ surgeries across the Island.
To apply, call Cats Protection IW Cat Centre on Ryde 03000 12025.
