The Blue Lamp Trust has demonstrated its life-saving mission by protecting vulnerable members of the community. Recently, 87-year-old Irene, who lives independently on the Island, faced a potentially life-threatening carbon monoxide incident. Thanks to the swift intervention of the Trust’s safety technician, Lois, the danger was quickly resolved.
What started as a concern over what Irene believed was a faulty carbon monoxide alarm, turned into a critical response to an active gas leak.
Lois, a trained Safety Technician at the Blue Lamp Trust, arrived promptly to investigate. She quickly confirmed the alarm was working correctly and had detected a gas leak. Lois moved Irene to a safe area, ventilated the space, and contacted the gas board using the emergency number (0800 111 999).
Recognising the need for additional precautions, Lois installed carbon monoxide alarms in every room of Irene’s home. “I didn’t even think about having alarms in other rooms or realise that the one sitting on top of the gas fire wouldn’t work because it had overheated, but Lois explained how important it was, and I felt so much better after she’d fitted them,” Irene said.
Reflecting on the experience, Irene expressed heartfelt gratitude. “I’m so thankful for Lois and the Blue Lamp Trust,” she said. “Without them, who knows what might have happened.”
