Bembridge, one of the oldest street fairs in the country, celebrated its 69th anniversary as the village came to a standstill on Monday. The streets were jam-packed, with visitors browsing the 75 trade and charity stalls, and enjoyed the 21 vintage cars on show. There was magical entertainment for the children with performances from Huxley, Randini and fire-breathers.
One of the organisers, Jay Chapman, landlord of The Old Village Inn, said: “There was something for everyone and we had great crowds, much bigger than last year.
“As well as the magicians, we had super heroes in costume mixing with the crowd and having their photos taken. We also supplied a free park and ride and the Kingswood Activity Centre members helped us with first aid, stewarding and car parking.
“It was a real community event which was a great success.”
