One person was taken to Southampton Hospital, by Hampshire & IW Air Ambulance, after two people fell over the seawall at Totland, close to The Waterfront Bar and Restaurant, on Sunday afternoon (February 19).
Paramedics and the Needles Coastguard Rescue Team also responded to the incident with the air ambulance landing on the beach around 3.15pm.
Eye witness, Stephen Phillips, who was walking his dog at the time, said: “I was there when the helicopter arrived with two ambulances at the scene.
“Two people were lying on the sand at the bottom of the sea wall. I was informed a woman had fallen off the top of the sea wall, at about 2.40pm, having slipped off the edge. She fell approximately seven feet to the sand below and was on one side of the sea wall steps.
“In a separate incident, a man was lying on the sand on the other side of the steps, approximately 20ft away from the woman. Either he slipped off the top of the wall, or fell down the concrete steps at around 3pm.
“The helicopter dropped paramedics off at the scene by landing on the beach. Fortunately, it was low tide.”
A spokeswoman for the IW NHS Trust confirmed: “On Sunday afternoon, following the Totland seawall incident, one patient was transported to Southampton via Helimed, and the other was walking wounded.”
