The Isle of Wight German Twinning Association has celebrated the return of its Annual Dinner for the first time since the Covid lockdowns. The event took place on Thursday, at the Isle of Wight College Restaurant, with 35 members and guests gathering to enjoy an evening of German culture and camaraderie.
Guests were treated to a meal which included German-inspired dishes, and had the opportunity to sample Bavarian beer, adding an authentic touch to the occasion. Councillor Karl Love, chairman of the Isle of Wight Council, attended as a guest, accompanied by his consort, David Hill. The Association’s Honorary President, Mr Edgar Piper, and Mrs Else Piper were also present.
The Isle of Wight German Twinning Association works to maintain the Island’s longstanding civic ties with two regions in Germany, the City of Coburg, in Bavaria, and the County of Ostholstein, in northern Germany. Coburg is famously known as the birthplace of Prince Albert. The link with Ostholstein marks its 70th anniversary this year.
