Young people from the Island have been congratulated for their efforts and achievements in The Duke of Edinburgh’s award (DofE) scheme.
Carol Taverner, DofE facilitator for the Isle of Wight Council, presented the awards to young people who have achieved either their Gold, Bronze or John Muir award.
Held at Brading Youth and Community Centre on Friday, September 30, the evening celebrated the expeditions and residential projects undertaken by the delegates.
Nick Spencer, Emelia Miller and Robert Clark were presented with John Muir awards for their environmental survey project of the Kennet and Avon Canal as part of their Gold residential on a canal boat. Nick and Robert have since achieved their full Gold Award and are awaiting an invitation to a London palace to receive it.
Seven Silver participants gave a spoof documentary-styled presentation on their three-day expedition in the New Forest, highlighting the wildlife and animals encountered on the route, as well as narrating other entertaining antics.
Four Bronze awards were presented to Grace King, Macy Remnant, Finley Youle and Aidan Clement for completing all four sections of the award. Macy, Finley and Aidan also completed an expedition in the West Wight, exploring the countryside for two days, camping out for one night, earlier in the year.
