We asked Wightlink owners Basalt about the possible ‘£300m’ sale

Following reports of the sale of Island ferry company Wightlink – we asked their owners for more information.

On Sunday (July 29), The Times reported that Wightlink’s owners, Basalt Infrastructure Partners, could be about to offload the business for a £300m price tag.

Basalt have offices in central London, Munich and New York City on 42nd Street – close to Grand Central Station.

Their investments include the Madrid Metro, various solar farms, energy companies and a fleet of emergency response and rescue vessels in the North Sea.

They didn’t have a lot to say about the rumoured sale.

A spokesman for Basalt Infrastructure Partners said: “As Wightlink’s owners, Basalt Infrastructure Partners, have invested £45m in the environmentally friendly flagship Victoria of Wight and port improvements.

“Wightlink and its management team are fully focused on the introduction of the new ship to the fleet. Basalt has no further comment to make.”
