Sell your car – the Wight way

By Press Release May 5, 2023

There’s a new way to sell your car on the Island, and it will cost sellers nothing to use, and support local charities at the same time.

Rob Dutton, a born and bred Islander, has set up Wight Car Auctions, after becoming disillusioned with the retail trade and feeling the benefits of working from home during the Covid pandemic, including spending more time with his twin daughters.

With more than 30 years of experience in new and used car sales, hospitality and the jewellery trade, he’s come up with a way to use his knowledge in a new, low-cost, easy-to-use on-line auction service for the Isle of Wight and beyond.

Selling a car through Wight Car Auctions allows the seller to keep 100 per cent of the winning bid, with the buyer paying a 5 per cent buyer’s premium (minimum £150).

He also has plans for sections on the website for watercraft and quality watches, and the whole process can be done from your living room.

Rob said: “Most auctions charge between 15 to 30 per cent with VAT to both buyer and seller. I can offer these great value-for-money prices by keeping my running costs low.

“I’m not in competition with the motor trade; in fact, this service works for them as well. They can sell surplus stock without the costs of shipping vehicles off to mainland auctions.

“If you’ve had an offer for your car, either through the motor trade or privately, why not use that as a reserve price and put it on wightcarauctions.com for a week? You may get a higher offer and if not you can always go back to the previous offer.

“Why wouldn’t you try us first? It’s a no-brainer; there’s literally nothing to lose.

“We also offer a ‘Buy it Now’ page which again is free to use.”

There are also plans to give back to the Island community, with a charitable donation for every sale, starting off with the IW branch of Parkinsons UK and Wight Dash.

Rob added: “Some things in life look too good to be true you might think, ‘What’s the catch?’ Well, it is true, and there’s no catch!”
