Island set for The King!

By Press Release May 5, 2023

The Island is going ‘Coronation Crazy’ this weekend, as thousands of people will celebrate the crowning of King Charles III.

The 74-year-old officially became King upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September.

He will be crowned along with his Queen Consort, Camilla, tomorrow (Saturday) in a ceremony at Westminster Abbey at 11am.

The Coronation will be screened at a variety of venues across the Island along with live music, picnics and entertainment spanning three days. All the towns will hold celebrations with many villages joining in the fun.

Among the festivities, is Newport’s free Coronation celebration of music performances by Platform One students, tomorrow, between noon and 6pm.

A family-friendly day of fun takes place in St Thomas’s Garden of Rest in Ryde on Sunday, with Shademakers UK’s interactive dance sessions while a three-day beer and music festival is being hosted at the White Horse, Whitwell.
