Sandown & Shanklin Hurricanes returned to their winning ways with a 31-24 away win at Trojans, in Division One, with the Tornadoes, Sandown’s second XV also winning away at Fareham Heathens, 24-19.
In Division Two, IW narrowly lost 38-33 at home to Havant III. Conceding early points the Island side won a line-out with David Blackman feeding brother, Luke, to drive over for a try which was converted by George Huish. Huish ran over to narrow the score to 14-12. The visitors added more points before Luke Blackman got his second to see IW trail 31-19 at the break.
The low-scoring second half saw Cameron Browne excel in attack, player-of-the-match Harri Jones-Evans land crunching tackles, with centre, Sam McQueen, finishing a flowing move. Inside the hour, hard-running hooker, George Butler, crashed over for a deserved try with conversions, and took the lead 33-31. Although the Islanders gave their all in defence, pressure from the visitors saw them score and leave the Islanders disappointed but with bonus points.
Ventnor, in Division Three, were awarded a home win over Overton. However, Ventnor prevailed 29-14 in a hastily arranged 13-a-side friendly with loaned players from the home side and uncontested scrums played within Hampshire League protocols. The shortened match saw tries from Dan Lythgoe, Joe Coghlan, Alec Bulpitt, Lewis Jones and Ed Blake, with Max Wheeler kicking two conversions.
Their 2nd XV are at home to Fareham Heathens II XV this weekend in the Premiership South, after conceding their match away at New Milton.
