Goals from player-of-the-match, Kit McChesney, and Sam Challis didn’t prevent IW Men’s 1st XI narrowly losing 3-2 away, at Havant, in Division Two South Central.
In Solent Two, player-of-the-match, Stephen Woodford, scored both goals as the 2nd XI won 2-1 at home to table-topping Basingstoke. After conceding the first goal the Islanders fought back to take the win. The following day they drew 2-2 away, at Haslemere, with both goals from Rupert King.
The Women’s 1st XI won 2-1 away, at Basingstoke, in Division Two South Central. After going a goal behind, player-of-the-match, Emily Lord, and Evie Fairhurst scored the decisive goals.
There was a decisive 4-2 win for the 2nd XI at home, to Chichester Centurions, with the Islanders attacking from the start. Player-of-the-match, Ali Townend, had a shot blocked on the line, but Island goals came from Megan Bridger, Sienna and Layla Holbrook, and Annabel Stanley, to secure a well-deserved first win of the season.
Sunday saw the Island U-16 Girls ‘A’ team travel to Eastbourne, for the third round of the National Plate competition. Despite a strong and spirited performance, the Islanders narrowly lost 3-1, with player-of-the-match, Evie Fairhurst, on target for the Island side.
This weekend the Men’s 1st welcome Bournemouth; the 2nd XI are away at Gosport Borough. The Women’s 1st XI welcome Petersfield, and the 2nd XI travel to Petersfield.
