Reform UK’s Isle of Wight branch heard about its new structure at a well-attended meeting in Newport on Saturday.
Chaired by Sarah Morris, the party’s parliamentary candidate for Isle of Wight East last year, the gathering saw the announcement of a new streamlined structure for the local organisation, designed to enhance efficiency ahead of the future electoral challenges.
With 1,157 registered members – believed to be the largest Island membership for any political party – Reform UK remains a growing force on the Isle of Wight, reflecting the national picture. The meeting unveiled plans to unite the previously separate East and West Wight branches into a single Isle of Wight Branch. The decision, endorsed by Reform UK nationally, is intended to provide cohesive leadership better suited to the Island’s unique political environment. The announcement was met with enthusiastic approval.
Mrs Morris addressed the importance of the change, explaining that it would enable Reform UK to focus its resources effectively on fielding candidates for all 39 Isle of Wight Council seats. “As a combined Island branch, we will be in the best position to focus all of our energies on fielding well-motivated and enthusiastic candidates,” she said.
Having secured nearly 13,000 votes in the last General Election, representing close to 20 per cent of the Island’s vote share, locally Reform plans to build on this foundation. Recruitment for prospective council candidates is underway, despite confirmation this week of a delay in the Isle of Wight Council elections until next year.
