October half-term for schools on the Island has been extended again for the second year running. The decision was made under delegated powers by Cllr. Paul Brading, Cabinet member responsible for Children’s Services, Education and Skills.
Last year the Council decided to allow schools to take a two-week mid-term break in the Autumn, with the long six-week Summer holiday shortened by a week. They decided to repeat the plans again for the 2020/21 academic year after consultation with schools. Cllr Brading said that no concerns were raised when the report was published.
However not all Island schools have opted into the plans, and some will continue to take the traditional six-weeks in the Summer which leaves parents with children at different schools facing potential childcare issues, with their offspring attending school on different dates.
