Wight Whisky has unveiled its No.1 Single Malt, the first whisky of its kind to be produced on the Island.
Following the launch of their Signature Malt Blend in 2024, the new single malt marks a significant milestone for the distillery, which is based at New Farm on the Nunwell estate. Only 400 individually numbered bottles have been released, available exclusively from wightwhisky.com.
The whisky is crafted from locally-grown barley and pure Island spring water. Its production reflects Wight Whisky’s strong links with other local businesses, including Isle of Wight Grain, which supports Island barley farmers, and Wight Crystal, suppliers of natural spring water. The result is a limited-edition spirit, described as having notes of caramel, candied peel, vanilla, and dark chocolate.
Lucy Gregg, co-founder of Wight Whisky, said: “Our No.1 Single Malt is the purest expression of our Island — the first of its kind. It has been shaped by long sunlit days, salty sea air, and the richness of our Island’s soil. Every sip tells a story of local barley, Island spring water, and the passionate hands that brought them together.”
The whisky mash is brewed and fermented for more than a week before distillation. All barley used is grown on the Island, with each bottle carrying the stamp of Isle of Wight Grain.
Wight Whisky launched in 2024, and is the Island’s first whisky distillery. The team describes their approach as modern and experimental, aiming to push traditional boundaries while remaining rooted in the character of the Isle of Wight.
Further releases, including a limited number of casks, are planned.
