Help make history on Walk the Wight 2025

Walk the Wight 2025, Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s popular annual fund-raising event, is now open for registration as it prepares to celebrate its 35th anniversary.

Scheduled for Sunday, May 11, this year marks a milestone in the event’s history, with three and a half decades of community involvement and fund-raising success.

First launched in 1990, Walk the Wight has grown into a much-loved tradition for Islanders and visitors alike. The event brings together thousands of walkers, both local and from the mainland united in their support of Mountbatten’s critical work, which includes 24/7 care for over 2,300 people daily, from individuals facing life-limiting illnesses to families coping with loss. With demand for Mountbatten’s services projected to increase by 40 per cent within the next 18 months, the funds raised through this year’s walk are vital.

Participants have a choice of walking routes, with a £10 entry fee granting access to the event, an event pack, walker number, progress card, and a commemorative medal on completion. Specially designed 35th anniversary T-shirts, reusable water bottles, and dog bandanas are also available to buy.

Mountbatten CEO, Nigel Hartley, explained how the event has become a lifeline for the community and Mountbatten’s ability to deliver vital care. “Whether you’re walking in memory of a loved one, in support of someone being cared for now, to challenge yourself or to make a difference to the lives of others, this is your chance to make a difference,” he said. “Be part of this milestone year and help us grow the impact of Walk the Wight even further.”

While the entry fee covers event costs, walkers are encouraged to raise sponsorship money, with a target of £200 per walker. Top fund-raisers collecting £500 or more before April 12 will receive exclusive keepsakes and an invitation to a VIP 35th anniversary reception.
