Have your say on Newport parking

New double yellow lines proposed on Carisbrooke High Street

A consultation published by the Isle of Wight Council includes changes to parking restrictions in multiple locations across the Newport and Carisbrooke area. The proposals came from suggestions made by members of the public or local councillors and are available for the public to comment on until November 3.

The consultation contains details of draft Traffic Regulation Orders – these usually relate to changes to traffic issues such as double yellow lines, one-way streets or no right or left turns.

Councillor Phil Jordan, council leader and cabinet member for transport, encouraged residents and businesses to respond to the consultation. He said: “It really can make a difference – and we are listening. In the last few rounds of consultations on traffic orders, public comment has led to proposals being amended or withdrawn as has been the case in Cowes and Binstead recently, so please do get involved – we look forward to hearing what you have to say.”

Isle of Wight Council works with town, parish and community councils, and local ward councillors to ensure proposals that reach this stage already have some degree of public support.

You can find details of what is proposed at iow.life/newporttraffic. Comments of support and objections can only be legally considered if a full address is given, whether the response comes in by letter, email or by on-line survey.
