Festival shines spotlight on care and health jobs

Islanders considering a career change, or just starting out are being invited to discover rewarding roles in care and health at this year’s Care and Health Careers Festival.

The free event, organised by the IW Council, takes place at Lord Louis Library, Newport, on Wednesday (September 17), from 10am to 2pm.

Employers from across the sector will be on hand to showcase opportunities and answer questions, including representatives from the IW NHS Trust, Mountbatten Hospice, and a range of private and independent care providers. Council teams from adult social care and children’s services will also share insight into their work and current vacancies.

New to the line-up this year are the Hampshire and IW Air Ambulance and the IW Youth Trust, highlighting careers and volunteering opportunities in emergency and youth support services.

Katy Harwood, the council’s recruitment team leader, said; “We need more people to join the Island’s care and health workforce, supporting residents when they need it most. This event gives people a chance to see past stereotypes and discover just how rewarding these careers can be.”

Visitors can also get guidance from IW College, Adult Learning, and the council’s apprenticeship team, while DWP JobCentre Plus advisers will provide tailored jobseeker support.

Attendees are encouraged to take CVs, as some employers will be offering on-the-day interviews for live vacancies.
