A sale of important Isle of Wight coastal paintings, water-colours and prints, dating from the 1770s to the present day, by some of Great Britain’s most celebrated artists, is taking place at the Royal Solent Yacht Club, at Yarmouth, on June 28 & 29.
The show includes major works by Martyn Mackrill, Martin Swan RSMA, Cavendish Morton RI ROI, Colin Richens RMS ASEA, Ann Knowler SWA and celebrated 19th-century topographical artists, Professor William Gray and Edward William Cooke RA. The show also features a large watercolour by Josiah Taylor, painted in 1877, depicting the Royal Yacht Squadron schooner race between Corinne (160 tons) and Miranda (135 tons) in the Western Solent off Hurst Castle. The exhibition will also show paintings by twelve living Island artists renowned for their outstanding depictions of the Island’s coastline and adjacent waters.
In addition, the exhibition includes important Isle of Wight topographical books, including those by Sir Richard Worsley, Percy Stone and Robin McInnes’ Limited Editions. The exhibition has been arranged by Professor McInnes OBE FRSA who is an authority on British landscape and maritime art.
The exhibition is being held once more in the Hudleston Bar of the Royal Solent Yacht Club with its outstanding views over the Western Solent with the kind permission of the Club, and is open from 10am-4pm daily; admission is free. Parking is available in the town centre.
