Charity football match was a great day out

The Workwear Island charity football match was a huge success, raising £4,500 for Mountbatten, at Brading Town FC on Sunday.

The event, the second year it has been run, brought the community together for a full day of football, live entertainment, and family fun – all in memory of organiser and founder, Ellie Moore’s late mother, and in support of the Island’s hospice.

The main game saw Capital Jewellers’ White Team storm to victory over the PC Consultants’ Red Team 14–5, with White team captain, Kieran Allen, awarded man-of-the-match.

There was also a friendly walking football match, featuring players over the age of 60. After the main match, the next generation took to the pitch with a high energy children’s game. Every player received a medal, and several standout individuals were also awarded trophies for their efforts.

Entertainer, Derek Sandy, lit up half-time with his signature high-energy set, keeping the crowd buzzing. The music continued all day with performances from talented piper, Kieron Cooney, Catch 22, and Wright Wight Discos.

Ellie said: “Mountbatten has done so much for me and my family, and being able to hold this event in memory of my beautiful mum made it incredibly special.

“I’m so pleased with the huge turnout; we couldn’t have done it without the amazing support of our sponsors, Brading Town FC, the players, performers, all the local businesses involved, everyone who donated, and – of course – the wonderful people who came along. I feel so proud of our Island business community and truly grateful for the way everyone came together to make it such a success.”
