Brighstone Library fears

The future of Brighstone Library is in doubt, unless volunteers can raise some much-needed funds.

The library has been run by volunteers for the last 14 years but an electricity bill of £600 in January has sparked fears that it might have to close.

Volunteer, Norma Bradley, said: “The electricity bill was just so high; we can’t afford to keep paying bills like that. We have done our best to keep costs down by changings the heaters and our electricity provider, but it’s likely we might have to close if we cannot raise more funds.”

The library is now embarking on a series of fund-raising events starting with a ‘Guess the name of the Teddy’ competition.

The bear is in the library and all people have to do is fill in a form and write the bear’s name down, £1 for each guess. The winning entry will receive a prize.

This will be followed by book sale, coffee morning and raffle on Saturday, May 3, 10am-1pm. All welcome.
