Brothers, Ayrton and Finley Manser-Grundy, produced impressive performances at the Wessex League Cyclo-cross event, last Sunday.
Five-year-old Ayrton, competing in his first cyclo-cross race, took on the under-8 category, despite having no previous experience of racing, alongside a large field of riders.
Facing a challenging course with technical corners and climbs, he stayed on his bike throughout, and tackling every obstacle. Ayrton crossed the line in 11th place.
Elder brother, Finley, who recently turned eight, competed in a strong under-10 field of more than 40 riders. After a slow start, he fought his way into the leading group, regularly challenging for a top-three position. However, another cyclist crashed into the back of his bike, bending his rear derailleur, and sending him to the ground.
Undeterred, Finley remounted and battled through the field despite his damaged gears, securing fourth place.
Both brothers gained valuable experience in the competitive series.
