Bay pupils take lead in IW Youth Council

Oliver, Aydin and Fin

Three students from The Bay CE School have been elected to top roles in the IW Youth Council. Each candidate, all in Year 10, made a video to convince young people to vote for them. Aydin Gumus was voted into the role of Youth MP, Oliver McClean is deputy Youth MP and Fin Diffey is vice chairman.

The Youth MP is a member of the UK Youth Parliament, and will attend council meetings and a debate in the House of Commons.

They represent what young people care about and debate what changes they want to see locally and nationally. Aydin, Oliver and Fin are keen to improve the life experiences of young people on the Island.

Aydin said: “I would like to congratulate all other candidates and thank everyone who has expressed faith in my manifesto. I look forward to representing you, and working with the amazing members of the IW Youth Council to make the Island a better place to be for young people.”

Fin added: “Please interact with us, give us your opinions and get involved then we can support you and get your voice heard.”

Mrs Bowden, headteacher, said: “I am really proud of the students. I am sure they are future leaders.”
