Appley Tower reopens its doors this weekend and into the spring, for visitors to experience this unique building, it’s panoramic views, heritage and recent restoration.
To celebrate, artist Kathy Williams has made a site responsive art piece as she considers the past and present and the shapes of movement at the Tower. You will see spotted shadows that trail upwards along the wall of the spiral staircase to mimic the circular steel holders of the banister.
Go upstairs and you will find the UV-lit area in the mezzanine that fuses the daylight below with the interim stage.
Gavin Chambers is showcasing a few new light designs for this time created in acrylic.
He cites brutalist and modernist architecture as core influences on his work and both artists are keen to see the juxtapositions of the cool sharp edges of bamboo threaded together with a gesture of expressive paint.
