Terry Ramplin, who has been decorating his house in Christmas lights for the last 25 years, has admitted he will probably scale down his display later this year.
Terry, of Long Lane, supported by his wife, Sue, has delighted thousands of children over the years with his spectacular annual displays, raising more than £66,000 in the process.
But as he donated cheques to three different Island charities on Wednesday evening, following last year’s fund-raising, he said: “It’s getting harder and harder for me to be up and down a ladder onto the roof. It’s also been a tough year for me personally; I’ve had pneumonia twice and suffered two close bereavements. I think if I continue, then the displays will be smaller.”
The recipients of the cheques were: IW Prostate Cancer Support – £2,123, Wight Diamonds Marching Band £1,000, and Vectis Corps of Drums – £1,000.
His efforts help pay for PSA testing to detect prostate cancer in men across the Island throughout the year.
