The Isle of Wight speedway community, and the wider speedway world, are deeply saddened by the sudden death of Steve Piper, team manager of the Warriors, after he passed away peacefully in his sleep over the weekend.

Steve had been at the helm of the Island team for several years, guiding them to numerous victories and trophies. His leadership was marked by a unique blend of enthusiasm and humour, endearing him to both the Warriors and the Poole Pirates, where he was a familiar face for many years. His passion for speedway was infectious, and his presence will be greatly missed at both clubs.

Promoters, Barry Bishop and Chris Widman, expressed their shock and sorrow at the news, reflecting on Steve’s unwavering determination and inspirational leadership. “Steve was a person who never gave up, despite many challenges, and he was an inspiration to many of us. He was a great leader who always remained positive, even in the face of setbacks, and was a true inspiration to wheelchair users,” they said.

The Isle of Wight speedway community extends their condolences to Steve’s son, George, and to all his family and friends.
