Presentation to mark work on biodiversity

By Press Release Oct 25, 2022

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust has recognised the efforts of the Eco Church Group at St Helen’s Church in promoting biodiversity, and presented a plaque to mark all their hard work.

The presentation was made to Dan Jarvis, the churchyard’s groundsman, by Izzy Tween, the trust’s beaver recovery project officer, after a talk about the introduction of beavers in the Eastern Yar.

In 2019 St Helen’s became the first church in the Portsmouth Diocese, and only the tenth church in the country, to receive an Eco Church Gold Award from the international agency, A Rocha.

In recent years the group has created a pond and restored a labyrinth in the churchyard. The churchyard is being managed to protect wildlife and increase biodiversity.
