Shanklin’s Old Village was lit up with vibrant floats and summer sounds yesterday (Saturday) evening, with pulsating packed pubs, celebrating the return of the pomp and pageantry of the town’s Illuminated Carnival after the rains of 2023.
The Vectis Corps of Drums entertained clapping crowds with a special rendition of ‘Sweet Caroline’ outside the Falcon in Regent Street, with WWII veteran, Alec Penstone, leading revellers in enoying a 30-minute procession representing towns and villages across the Island, with walking displays, samba bands and dancers.
Event organiser, Denyse Larner, said: “Thanks to visitors and residents for turning out to support the first illuminated carnival of the summer, to all the businesses and the IW Council for their help, to Island Roads, and especially to all the volunteers that give up their time to make the floats and arrange the music and dance routines. It was a really special night.”
