The waters off Cowes will come alive on Friday as over 100 boats gather to take part in the Morgan Cup Race.
Starting just after 1pm from the Royal Yacht Squadron Line, crews representing 24 nations will set their sails towards Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, the Morgan Cup Race is named after Sir John Edward Redmond Morgan, a member of the JP Morgan banking dynasty and a keen sailor. Winners will vie for the Morgan Cup, with all trophies for this race held and presented by the Royal Thames Yacht Club.
This year’s race is also a testament to the event’s flexible nature. The Morgan Cup finished in Dartmouth in recent years. However, 2025 brings it back to the Channel Islands after a gap of eight years, presenting fresh offshore challenges to the competitors.
Each boat is equipped with live trackers, allowing audiences to follow the race in real-time via iw.observer/morgan-cup.
