A new on-line tool has been launched to help residents and visitors explore the Isle of Wight’s rich cultural and historic landscape.
IOWMap.co.uk is a free, interactive digital map featuring more than 1,300 locations across the Island, from well‑known landmarks to hidden corners that rarely make the guidebooks.
The bespoke platform allows users to search, browse, and learn about sites of interest, while also contributing their own knowledge. Each pin on the map includes information about the location’s history or significance, creating a constantly growing, community‑driven resource. The site is fully mobile‑friendly, making it easy to use while out walking, cycling, or exploring.
“We created IOWMap.co.uk to celebrate the spectacular heritage of the Isle of Wight and make it accessible to everyone, everywhere,” said creator, Ian Flegg. “From well‑known attractions to lesser‑known corners of the Island, this map serves as both a practical tool and a community hub for exploration.”
The Island’s long history, varied landscapes, and distinctive character have always been a draw for visitors, but until now there has been no single place to explore its heritage in such depth. The new map brings these stories together, offering a centralised way to discover the Island’s past and share it with others. All entries are searchable by category so that you can easily identify places of interest.
Whether planning a day trip, researching local history, or simply wanting to know more about places passed on a daily basis, the map provides an accessible gateway into the Island’s identity.
While the service is free to use, commercial venues can pay a small fee to be included. All proceeds are donated to IW Defibrillators, a local charity that installs and maintains life‑saving equipment across the Island.
