Neigh‑bourhood patrol called to loose horses

Police were called out on Friday morning after several loose horses were spotted wandering along Bowcombe Road, Carisbrooke, prompting a swift response to keep motorists safe.

The alert came in at 9.16am from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, who reported the animals on the road. While not quite as dramatic as a recent late‑night car pursuit, officers said it was still all part of the job.

PCSOs Romie and Amy were sent to assist so that officers could return to other incidents. The pair managed to guide the horses safely off the road and into a nearby field, avoiding what police jokingly described as a “neigh miss”.

With no mounted unit on the Island, the officers even gave the unexpected visitors some tongue‑in‑cheek “recruitment” names: Hoof Justice, Trott Detective and Stop Right Neigh. Two others, described as “grumpy” and “murderous‑looking”, were left to graze in peace.

The horses’ owner was located and arranged repairs to the fencing to prevent any repeat escape attempts. No injuries were reported, though officers noted “a few long faces”.

Sgt Radford, who shared the update, added a reminder that while the post was light‑hearted, animals on the road are treated as a priority because of the danger they pose to drivers.
