The main road through Wroxall is set to reopen temporarily for the Christmas and New Year period, with works now slightly ahead of schedule.
Island Roads has confirmed the route will reopen on the evening of Tuesday, December 9, as the project reaches roughly the halfway point in terms of the total area improved. The decision has been taken to avoid disruption to access to Ventnor during an important period for the town’s economy.
The planned pause will also provide some respite for Wroxall residents who have experienced ongoing disruption, including additional night-time working.
An Island Roads spokesman said they were pleased with the progress made, despite challenging weather conditions, and thanked both road users and the Wroxall community for their support and co-operation during the works.
They added that the project had reached a sensible point to pause, noting that beginning a new section, only to leave it unfinished, because of poor weather was something they were keen to avoid.
Work is due to resume on January 5, weather permitting. From that point, the main access out of Wroxall will be via Ventnor, and residents are being reminded to allow extra time for journeys.
Island Roads said residents will continue to be kept informed through email updates, the Island Roads website, and local media.
