The first Figgy Gig of the season was a resounding success at CHOYD in Yarmouth last Friday. Organised by Jean G-Owen, the evening opened with a mesmerizing performance from upcoming young stars, Annie and Martha. A packed River Room was enchanted by the shimmering elegance of Phoenix-Sahar Egyptian Dance (Dawn Everest). The Chines brought their inimitable style of Americana to the stage, and Graham Brown entertained with his poignant, humorous poetry.
In their sketch, co-hosts Figgy Pud (Jean G-Owen) and Figgy Wiggy (Cheryl May) recalled different versions of how they first met.
The superlative Mrs Snelling (Heather Whatley) relayed how she was accosted by security guard, Nathan (John Whatley), at a festival, and rebel musicians Rebuked made a delightful debut to the Figgy Gig. Cheryl’s performance of “Autumn Leaves” charmed, while her stand-up routine had everyone in stitches. Ross Westrop sang about the B-side of life. He was then joined by Chris Humphries and Roger Fellows for some sing-along fun. The evening ended with a rousing version of ‘Bring Me Sunshine’.
The next Figgy Gig is on November 3 and will supply some spooky Hallowe’en fun. Contact Jean G-Owen on 07715 985689 or jean28owen@gmail.com.
