A free-to-attend exhibition of a selection of work from some of the 120+ artists participating in this year’s Open Studio provided a spectacular launch on Friday in the café and Clayden Gallery at Quay Arts.
The exhibition highlights the creativity of the Island’s art community and provides a great opportunity for visitors to get a taste of some of the work that will be showcased during the Islandwide Open Studio event which will take place from Friday, August 23, to Sunday, September 8.
Visitors will not just have an opportunity to glimpse some of the artist’s work ahead of the event but are also able to buy the pieces on display.
The team of volunteers behind the new IW Open Studios Community Interest Company, who are working together to create a co-ordinated event celebrating Island artists, attended the launch, along with many of the artists exhibiting their work.
South Wight representative, Jo Kori, an Island-born artist based in Ventnor has a piece in the exhibition. Her work is primarily drawing, sculpture and mixed media installations. She said: “There is a real collaborative energy and enthusiasm of all the participating artists in IW Open Studios this year and I am delighted to be actively involved in this Showcase Exhibition which brings together many IW artists’ work in one place for visitors to enjoy.”
The exhibition at Quay Arts in Newport will be open daily 9am–5pm until Sunday, August 4.
