No-one will ever do a five stretch for dumping their old sofa in the nearest layby, nor will they get their vehicle crushed.
Last week, Labour told us that fly-tippers “could soon face up to five years in jail,” but we all know that will never happen.
Besides, local councils put so many barriers in place, it’s hardly surprising that not everyone disposes of their waste responsibly.
During Covid, the IW Council laughably told us that booking the tip would “save lives.” Clearly that policy suited them, because they’ve kept the same annoying rules in place. Once booked, I load my rubbish in the boot, which stinks out my car. Why don’t they let me take my trailer up there? Despite the vast sums of money, we give them, the council and government, always seem to be working for their benefit, not ours.
Certain types of waste are completely prohibited; others incur a charge. We’re not talking nuclear waste here. I’ve struggled to get rid of an old sink, a loo, a fridge and plasterboard. I reluctantly jump through their bureaucratic hoops, but not everyone bothers.
For many good reasons, including rubbish, I long ago concluded the two major political parties are worse than useless.
Perhaps that’s why, last week, so many voters used the Reform party to rough them up a bit.
Labour’s performance was particularly catastrophic; they were given a real pasting nationwide. Ten months ago, Keir Starmer swore they had a “fully costed” manifesto.
Once safely elected, he pretended they’d discovered a mysterious “black hole” and made pensioners and the disabled suffer. Then there’s their ruinous net zero employers’ tax, small farm inheritance grab, higher council taxes and turning a blind eye to disgusting grooming gangs.
Having trashed the economy and most public services, the Conservatives also had a complete meltdown last Thursday. They’re looking down and out; what they do next is anyone’s guess. Our former MP, Bob Seely, is evidently still in denial. He’s been popping up justifying his dismal failure with letters and online comments. He says he’s now an author – rewriting history seems to be his latest job. Hilariously, he claims that while he was MP, he responded to every single constituent’s communication. When challenged by anyone, he metaphorically sticks his fingers in his ears and yells like a petulant 5-year-old.
The Tories claimed to be a patriotic party, who believed in lower taxes and smaller government. Sadly, they forgot to govern like that. Immigration was their greatest betrayal. They consistently said they were reducing it while we saw dinghies arriving like trains at a tube station. It was like watching a bad Tommy Cooper trick – but without the laughs.
Realising this was a major factor in the electorate’s growing political disillusionment, Labour resolved to ry something new. “Smashing the gangs” became their mantra. Just how long Yvette Cooper can stay in post mindlessly mumbling that inane nonsense, while the number of new migrants spirals ever further out of control, is anyone’s guess.
The government shelled out £55 million on legal aid for migrants last year – and are spending £4 million a day on hotels for them. How dare they tell us there’s no money for the poor and needy, while generously funding bogus asylum claims. The Tories cut legal aid and effectively ruined the entire justice system.
So how come there’s still millions available for those dodgy young men coming ashore in Dover?
The left loathe Reform almost as much as they hate Trump and won’t control immigration on principle. The useless Tories lost control of that and public spending; now Labour are doing even worse. Recent borrowing was a staggering £15 billion more than forecast.
Last July people voted for change and Labour hasn’t delivered – it’s hardly surprising they’re giving Reform a go.
