Pretty dreadful weather last Sunday did not deter Islanders from attending the second Going Electric show at the Isle of Wight College, which attracted even more visitors than the successful inaugural event last year.
With more than 40 exhibitors covering electric vehicles, marine electrics, professional services and advice, solar and renewables, e-bikes and more; there was lots of expertise for visitors to tap into, and they proved keen to find out how electric power could transform their lives. The 10 talks throughout the day were well attended, with lively debate and questions from the audience.
A number of exhibitors reported that they had either made sales on the day or had made useful contacts to follow up after the show. Visitors, who had braved the rain and wind, were clearly impressed at the number of cars, e-bikes and other transport and electric power innovations available for them to look at or try out. Although it wasn’t the best weather for ice-cream, Plaza Ices’ impressive new electric ice-cream van drew lots of attention with Island Tea & Coffee serving warming drinks nearby, with the WI providing tea and cakes inside the college.
The feedback from visitors and exhibitors alike has been extremely positive, with many already keen to book up for next year’s event, which will be back even bigger and better in 2024.
The show, organised by Wight Community Energy and sponsored by WightFibre, was opened by MP, Bob Seely.
