Following five years in post, Girlguiding’s Island Commissioner, Linda Stone, and her two assistants, Anne Watson and Donna Sanders-Steel, have stepped down in accordance with Girlguiding policy.
Having served during the Covid crisis, when a number of units kept meetings going for the girls via Zoom, their five-year term was brought to an end in much happier times, with the girls now taking part in their outdoor activities as well as regular learning and fun meetings.
At an evening presentation, the three volunteers were thanked by the new Island Commissioner for supporting the girls and volunteers through tough times and presented with gifts. All three will continue in Girlguiding as unit leaders, in Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.
New Island Commissioner, Wendy Macklin, a long time unit leader in Seaview, and more recently in East Cowes, welcomed everyone to the event as well as making the presentations.
Wendy, who has held various posts in Girlguiding IW, will have Newport Guide Leader, Emma Bryson, as her assistant and a team of commissioners to support her work.
