Hundreds of people attended Newport Fire Station’s Open Day on Saturday with the emergency services out in force to engage with the public, showing off their vehicles with demonstrations and have-a-go activities.
As well as the Fire Service, Police, Ambulance including first responders, HM Coastguard and WightSAR members were also on hand to join in the fun.
A Hants & IW Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said: “The day was a tremendous success, and we welcomed hundreds of visitors. The event provided a valuable opportunity for families, local residents, and visitors to engage with our dedicated firefighters through live demonstrations, educational activities, and interactive displays.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our bond with the community while promoting vital fire safety. We were delighted by the overwhelming positive feedback, with many attendees expressing their appreciation for the insights gained into fire prevention and our ongoing efforts to keep the public safe.”
West Wight MP, Richard Quigley, and High Sheriff, Graham Biss, also attended the event, along with the first responders who enjoyed teaching CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) to more than 270 adults and children.
