Family politics could be tricky

Sarah Redrup

The IW Liberal Democrats are first out of the stalls in announcing their candidate for the Wootton Bridge by-election.

Sarah Redrup runs popular Grace’s Bakery, alongside other members of her family. In her spare time she is active in the community and supports many local charitable projects. She has a keen interest in local heritage, and volunteers for the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

Chairman, Andrew Garratt, said: “We’re delighted that Sarah put herself forward as our candidate. Through her voluntary and charitable work, she has shown deep commitment to helping local people.”

Sarah added: “Without the support of our community and our customers, especially during the Covid lockdowns, our bakery wouldn’t be what it is today, so I feel I have a duty to give back to the Island where I can.

“Since 2017, I have supported many charitable projects including helping to provide free meals for children during the summer holidays, raising thousands of pounds for the Isle of Wight Alzheimer Cafe, and volunteering for the IW Steam Railway.

“If elected, I will do my best to help residents navigate council services, be a listening ear and a strong voice for Wootton Bridge.”

However, if she were elected, family conversations about politics may be tricky, as her father, Ray Redrup, is the councillor for Newport West, but was elected under the Conservative flag.
