East Cowes Carnival – a fundraising success

Peter May in his high heels with Star War characters

East Cowes Carnival supporters have been busy fundraising for the town’s first carnival in 30 years later in the summer.

As previously reported, the carnival returns on the afternoon of August 23 with the idea coming from Jane Allchorn, who runs Community Spirited at the Parkside Pavilion.

The café played host to a 4km Star Wars-themed fun run with families out in force participating and cheering on the local runners.

They were joined by prolific Island charity fundraiser Peter May of ‘To Be in Her Shoes’ who did the equivalent run on a treadmill in high heels, supported by his family.

To complete the day, the café also hosted a second workshop with special guest The New Carnival Company. Their members showed locals how to make costumes for the Island’s Mardi Gras being held on July 5. The next free family workshop is on May 18 at the Scout Hut, all welcome.

Last Thursday, local singer and musician Steve Love, entertained people at the 101 Craft Ale House, East Cowes, to add to the fundraising. A total of £335.20 from both events was raised for carnival funds.
