CycleWight is calling on Islanders to help highlight serious problems on the Island’s cycleways and footpaths, following recent flooding and erosion.
The group shared an image on social media, showing the track at Langbridge completely flooded, making it impassable for cyclists and walkers. They say this is just one example of the growing pressures on the network after heavy rain.
Further issues have been reported at Yarmouth and along the Blackwater to Shide path, where sections of the riverbank have partially collapsed, raising concerns about safety and long‑term stability.
CycleWight has already raised these problems with the relevant authorities, but the group says community reporting is essential if repairs are to be prioritised.
They are encouraging residents to log any damage or hazards using the FixMyStreet app, or by reporting directly to Island Roads which can be done via iw.observer/island-roads. The more reports received, they say, the more likely it is that long‑term solutions will be put in place.
A spokesman for the cycling lobby group said the Island’s active travel routes are a vital resource for commuters, families, and leisure users, and maintaining them is crucial for safety and accessibility.
They also thanked their volunteer flood warden for capturing the latest image at Langbridge, which clearly shows the scale of the problem.
