2022 Division One champions Shanklin, won the All Things Printed IW Challenge Cup 1-0, beating Whitecroft & Barton under floodlights at Brading, in the season’s midweek finale in front of a crowd of around 300.

W&B’s stand-in keeper, and man-of-the-match, Kev Mitchell, pulled off a series of saves, including an early header from Shanklin skipper, Peter Wilson. A foul on Shanklin’s George Carter-Knight resulted in ref, Ali Taylor, awarding a sport kick, and keeper Mitchell dived to his right to save Iain Seabrook’s shot. With chances limited, and speculative shots from both sides, the first half ended 0-0.

The second half started with Shanklin kicking downhill, and applying pressure, with W&B counter-attacking on the hour. Shanklin stalwart, Iain Seabrook, was judged to have handled the ball when clearing it. Matt Evan’s resultant penalty was sensationally saved down to his left by Shanklin’s Sean Phillips.

With 15 minutes left, a Seabrook pass down the left, saw Neo Lamb cut inside and finish the move with a left foot shot from ten yards.

W&B had several players booked in the match, and with neither side creating another clear cut chance, the match finished 1-0 to Shanklin, who last won the cup in 2016. Skipper Wilson collected the trophy and led the celebrations with manager, Paul Haward.
