Bay pupils celebrate maths challenge successes

Year 9 students

Students at The Bay CE School are celebrating notable success after taking part in the prestigious UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Intermediate Maths Challenge.

A total of 35 pupils from Years nine and ten sat the national challenge earlier this term, which is known for its demanding problem-solving questions and emphasis on logical thinking and reasoning. The competition attracts entries from schools across the UK and is widely recognised for encouraging mathematical excellence among young people.

The Bay CE School has long supported its pupils in striving for academic achievement, and staff were delighted to see several students receive national recognition for their efforts. Among the top performers was Elijah, who earned a silver certificate and was named the school’s highest scorer. Daniela, also awarded silver, was recognised as the top performer in her year group.

The school held a presentation to honour the students’ achievements, with certificates awarded to those who attained the highest marks.

Mrs Moreno, second in the mathematics department, praised the pupils for their efforts: “We are incredibly proud of all the students who took part, their results reflect real dedication and a strong enthusiasm for the subject.”

The school plans to continue its involvement in future UKMT competitions and hopes to inspire even more pupils to take up the challenge and explore the wider world of mathematics. Academic successes are a reminder of the Island’s growing talent in STEM subjects and the encouragement given to students to reach their full potential.
