An Island group have recorded their first album which is due to be released next month.
Solace, which comprises Simon Dobbs (vocalist/acoustic guitar), Paul Drury (lead/rhythm guitars), Sean Schofield (drums/percussion) and Shaun Lomax on bass, is releasing ‘This Is Now’, 12 songs penned by Simon.
Although formed three years ago, only Simon and Paul are original members, with a variety of factors, including Covid, forcing them to disband and regroup again.
Paul said: “Our music is melodic rock with bits of country and bits of rock, some progressive rock and indy. I’ve been very much influenced by Pink Floyd and Roger Gilmour.”
Simon added: “We’re trying to push our original music, we don’t want to play covers. I’m always writing songs and I’ve already got material for two more albums. We’ve been rehearsing hard over the last few months and this is the culmination of all our efforts. Paul and myself have been together for a few years and this is a collaboration of the Solace sound.”
The album, which was mixed and mastered at Empire Sound, Newport, will be launched next month at HMV Southampton where they will play live and they are due to play at Quay Arts, Newport, on November 7.
The group rehearse at Porchfield Village Hall and is arranging live London dates including a gig at the famous Half Moon, Putney, where Cold Play has performed.
