WWSCC continue with Covid rules

West Wight Sports and Community Centre is to continue with its Covid restriction measures until at least Easter, despite the government relaxing all rules yesterday (Thursday).

Staff will continue to test and anyone showing symptoms or testing positive will stay away from work and be expected to self-isolate for up to 10 days or until two successive negative tests after day five.

Manager, Clare Griffin, said: “The decision to continue with these measures has been taken so that vulnerable and high-risk members of the community can continue to use the centre with confidence.

“The services provided by the centre are essential to people’s well-being and the centre wants to be sure that people can continue to take part in all its activities and be supported in their overall well-being.

“The financial risk to the centre of paying staff who are self-isolating is outweighed by the likely reduction in business from people who remain nervous and are likely to stay away.

“Many of our centre users are older, have long term health conditions or are vulnerable. It is essential that people feel safe using our facilities and confident that they can continue to exercise or receive support with their mental and emotional well-being.”
