SEN changes lead to redundancy by email

The special needs education outreach team, staff who go into schools to support special needs children, have received redundancy notices by email. It is not known how many staff are affected.

A spokesman from the IW Council said: “We are in the process of amending and improving our education outreach offer for schools. This includes changing the outreach, previously provided by the special school, Medina House, which will not be continuing. This decision was made in conjunction with Medina House, the employer of the staff involved. Schools using the service have been informed.

“Medina House’s wider provision is not affected and will continue in its current format.

“The council is also in the process of developing a new education strategy for the Island which will have a strong emphasis on SEN. Anyone who would like to contribute or find out more should contact strategic.planning@iow.gov.uk.”

There is one drop-in session remaining about the challenges faced by the Island’s education system. It takes place on Wednesday (May 1), at the Wroxall Community Centre, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
