Could a new road train vehicle connect Ventnor and Shanklin?

A road train that might be suitable for the route

A working party of the Isle of Wight Bus & Rail Users’ Group (IWBRUG) is looking at options to bring the former railway line between Shanklin and Ventnor back into use.

The group considers that new transport options must be explored, because the current closure of Leeson Road, with no indication of when it may re-open, and the threat of future landslips, could leave Ventnor with no viable route from the east of the Island.

The group is currently looking at a road train option, which it is believed would be easily affordable, and is considering future plans for a light rail option to meet the Island Line railway in Shanklin.

The IWBRUG meets again tomorrow, and Islanders are welcome to attend and give their views. The meeting will be held at the Methodist Church Hall in Quay Street, Newport, at 11.15am.
