Shanklin FC and Shanklin VYCC volunteer, Peter Wilson, received a cheque for £1,000 from Island High Sheriff, Jacque Gazzard, on behalf of Sported, the UK’s largest charity supporting grassroots sports, helping transform lives and strengthening communities.

Peter, who recently collected the Sported National Partnership Award, said: “This grant will make a positive difference to activities for young people in Shanklin, and the wider community. We really appreciate the support Sported gives to us and other clubs.”

Jacque added: “Having seen first-hand the range of sporting opportunities provided by volunteers in Shanklin and across the Island, this funding will increase opportunities and enhance participation.”
Shanklin FC, with three youth, two men’s and one women’s teams, have plans to increase capacity to enable the development of additional sides in 2026, with improvements to storage and additional equipment being planned.

Jacque concluded, “The County Ground, Shanklin’s home, is a community hub for sport at weekends, and during the week, and I look forward to seeing the improvements planned for later in the year.”
