Shanklin & Godshill 145-1 v Ventnor 144 all out

The sound of leather on willow returned to Westhill with the south coast encounter between Shanklin & Godshill, in their 150th year, and Ventnor 2nd XI, with the home side winning by 9 wickets.

After skipper San Read won the toss and elected to bat first, Ventnor openers, Umar Tarar (33) and Mark Fletcher (34), put on 52 for the first wicket, before wickets started tumbling. Shanklin’s Nathan Moore, Callum Wright and Matt Lambourne accounted for three wickets each, with Robert Holdcroft chipping in with another to limit the visitors to 144 all out off 35.1 overs.

After the break, Shanklin opened with Mark Ringer (41) and stalwart, James Lucy (47), combining to score 106 before Tarar ran Lucy out before reaching his 50. Shanklin skipper, Seb Egerton-Read, saw them over the line with an unbeaten 17 in a score of 145-1 and a winning start to the season.
